Rajang Port Authority

The Preferred First Port of Call Into Central Sarawak

About Us

Rajang Port Authority (RPA) was established under Section 3 of the Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961 (Sarawak) on 1st November 1970 and commenced its operation on 17th May 1971. It is a State Statutory Body and is placed under the purview of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Sarawak.

Located along Malaysia’s longest river, the Rajang, serves as the primary distribution hub for Sarawak's vast hinterlands.  Situated in Sibu, just 60 kilometers from the South China Sea, RPA is a vital logistics center.  Our port in Sibu is the main revenue earning centre, which is also the main route for containerized cargo and conventional cargo. Sarikei caters mainly for conventional cargo for local consumption and timber products form the bulk of cargo handled at Sibu mid-stream and anchorages.

The port specializes in exporting sawn timber and timber products, with trading partners across Peninsular Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Europe, China, Japan, and Hong Kong. Over the years, RPA has invested heavily in modernizing its port machinery and technology, totaling RM81 million between 1991 and 2015, and developed an advanced Integrated Information System for global connectivity.

RPA's commitment to innovation and strategic partnerships has established it as a key player in the supply chain, ensuring efficient maritime transport, port handling, and hinterland logistics. The port also enhances connections between Sarawak's hinterlands and core regions, solidifying its role in both regional and global trade networks.
